Our mission
The mission of the S.C.R.A.P. Gallery is to actively engage youth as stewards of their environment through a concentrated, hands-on, educational effort stressing the Four R’s – Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Responsibility.
The S.C.R.A.P. Gallery is an innovative program that addresses two of today’s most urgent issues – the environment and the education of our youth. Conservation and reuse through hands-on exploration with discarded materials is promoted at the S.C.R.A.P. Gallery. Arts and science workshops help students understand complex environmental issues. Materials donated by local businesses and manufacturers are available for reuse by teachers, artists and community programs.
About the S.C.R.A.P. Gallery
For more than 30 years, S.C.R.A.P. Gallery has grown from a simple idea: bring young people, creativity and community together to make a difference for the environment.
What makes S.C.R.A.P. Gallery unique is the community that keeps it moving forward. Students and their families, school districts, local businesses, environmental organizations, community partners, the City of Cathedral City and municipalities throughout the Coachella Valley have all played a part in its story.
Through an innovative model that brings together recycled art, environmental education, STEM learning and community engagement, students don’t just learn about environmental issues. They create, participate and discover that their own ideas and actions can make a real difference.
More than three decades later, S.C.R.A.P. Gallery continues to grow organically through the creativity of its students and the collective support of a community committed to a more sustainable future.
