SCRAP Gallery Facility

THE FACILITY:

S.C.R.A.P. Gallery is the only children’s art and environmental conservation museum in Coachella Valley, and the only one of its kind in Riverside County, CA. The facility allows for creative expression and education to take place.

Children create art on-site by using donated discarded materials while at the same time learning about complex environmental issues, arts, culture, science and much more. The gallery exhibits works of art by renown artists alongside those of S.C.R.A.P. Gallery youth, and houses both permanent and temporary interactive exhibits on issues like GMOs, renewable energy, water scarcity and climate change. Field trips for K-12 students take place throughout the week. The S.C.R.A.P. Gallery serves as a resource for teachers and students alike

By going to schools, libraries, festivals and events as well as other educational venues,  S.C.R.A.P. Gallery ensures that those unable to visit the physical location still have access to these. Through a hands-on effort stressing the Four R's - Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Responsibility the S.C.R.A.P. Gallery actively engage youth as stewards of their environment.

Our mission

The mission of the S.C.R.A.P. Gallery is to actively engage youth as stewards of their environment through a concentrated, hands-on, educational effort stressing the Four R’s – Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Responsibility.

The S.C.R.A.P. Gallery is an innovative program that addresses two of today’s most urgent issues – the environment and the education of our youth. Conservation and reuse through hands-on exploration with discarded materials is promoted at the S.C.R.A.P. Gallery. Arts and science workshops help students understand complex environmental issues. Materials donated by local businesses and manufacturers are available for reuse by teachers, artists and community programs.

If we cannot envision the world we would like to live in, we cannot work towards its creation. If we cannot place ourselves in it in our imagination, we will not believe it is possible.

The average American discards 4.3 pounds of garbage every day. Without recycling, we add unneeded pressure to our environment -- from our forests, to our deserts and to our oceans, by extracting more and more resources. These environmental issues are discussed by adults yet nearly ignored in our school systems.

Enter the Student Creative Recycle Art Program (S.C.R.A.P. Gallery). S.C.R.A.P. Gallery’s unique approach to help solve environmental problems teaches children to be creative while building science, technology, engineering, art and math skills(S.T.E.A.M.). Through personal recycling habits children learn to take care of the planet.
